Intercom System Installation in Toronto & the GTA

Video intercoms, IP-based entry systems, smartphone-controlled door release, and multi-tenant condo and apartment installs. We design and build intercom systems for residential buildings, commercial properties, and gated facilities across the GTA.

See Who Is at Your Door Before You Buzz Them In

Old telephone-entry systems are clunky, hard to rewire, and do not show you who is actually at the door. Modern intercom systems solve all of that — video at the entrance, smartphone answering from anywhere, remote unlock, and clean integration with your access control. We install for condo boards, apartment landlords, property managers, small offices, and commercial facilities. Full rewires, retrofits, and new builds all handled in-house.

Video Intercoms

See every visitor before granting access — crystal-clear video at every entrance

Smartphone-Based

ButterflyMX, Swiftlane, and DoorBird — answer the door from anywhere

Multi-Tenant Systems

Condos and apartment buildings — one entry, dozens or hundreds of units

Access Integration

Tied into your access control so entry logs every visitor, not just employees

What We Install

Video Intercom Systems

HD video at the entrance with two-way audio. We install Aiphone, Comelit, Fermax, and 2N video intercom systems with in-unit monitors, smartphone apps, or both. Night vision, wide-angle lenses, and tamper-resistant exterior housings. Footage can be recorded to a local NVR or cloud for visitor audits.

IP Network Intercoms

Runs over your existing network instead of proprietary wiring. Scalable, easy to add stations, and remote-manageable. Ideal for new construction or buildings being rewired for other low-voltage work. We configure VLANs and PoE switches so the intercom network stays isolated from your business traffic.

Smartphone-Based Intercoms

ButterflyMX, Swiftlane, Akuvox — platforms where the tenant answers the door from their phone, no in-unit hardware required. Video call, unlock button, and visitor log in the app. Huge for rental buildings where you do not want to install and maintain physical handsets in every unit. Works on iOS and Android.

Multi-Tenant Condo & Apartment Systems

Directory panels at the front door with unit lookup, call routing, and elevator control integration. We work with Mircom, Alpha Communications, BAS-IP, and the building-wide systems most condo boards prefer. Full rewires if the existing system is failing, or targeted upgrades if just the panel or cameras are outdated.

Commercial & Gated Entry Intercoms

For office buildings, industrial yards, medical clinics, and gated commercial properties. Reception-based handsets, gate-mounted intercoms for vehicle access, and smartphone-based for after-hours deliveries. Paging integration, call-forwarding, and multi-station configurations for sites with multiple entry points.

Retrofit & Legacy System Upgrades

Got a 20-year-old Mircom or Alpha handset-based system that still works but looks dated? We can often keep the existing wiring and just replace the panel and in-unit hardware — saves thousands compared to a full rewire. If the wiring is shot, we plan a cutover with minimal tenant disruption. Good buildings can be retrofitted to video or smartphone-based without tearing everything apart.

Properties We Install For

Condo Buildings

Lobby panels, unit handsets or smartphone-based, elevator control, parking access integration

Apartment Buildings

Multi-tenant entry systems, landlord remote management, tenant turnover without hardware swaps

Offices & Clinics

Reception handsets, after-hours video entry, visitor screening, package delivery stations

Gated Properties

Vehicle and pedestrian entry, license plate recognition, driveway gate automation

Warehouses & Industrial

Loading dock intercoms, yard entry, contractor check-in, after-hours security

Mixed-Use Buildings

Commercial ground floor plus residential upper floors — separate intercom zones

Our Install Process

Intercom installs vary wildly depending on building age and existing infrastructure. Every project follows the same process:

1. Building & Wiring Audit

Walkthrough of every entry point, every unit, and the existing wiring if any. For condos and apartments, we coordinate with the property manager. We figure out what can be reused, what needs replacing, and whether the building electrical infrastructure supports the platform you want.

2. Platform Recommendation

Small single-entry office — Aiphone or 2N video is usually the answer. 40-unit condo with failing Mircom — likely a full upgrade to BAS-IP or a smartphone-based swap to ButterflyMX. Gated commercial yard — cellular or PoE video intercom with remote unlock. We explain the trade-offs, not just pitch the most expensive option.

3. Installation

Running cable, installing entry panels, mounting in-unit handsets (if the system uses them), setting up the control panel, and configuring network integration. For condos, we schedule installs during daytime hours and coordinate with residents. Fire code compliance on every door that touches an egress route.

4. Configuration & Resident Training

Programming unit numbers, call routing, resident directory, and admin accounts. For smartphone-based systems, we help property managers onboard residents to the app. Clear handoff documents so facilities teams know how to add, change, or remove residents going forward.

5. Post-Install Support

Property managers and condo boards get direct support contacts. New resident needs a phone added to the system, door panel vandalized, unit changing hands — we are reachable. Maintenance plans are available for multi-tenant buildings that want scheduled check-ups.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does intercom installation cost in Toronto?
A single-entry video intercom for a home or small office typically runs $1,000-$2,500 installed. Commercial office entry systems land between $2,000-$5,000. Multi-tenant condo and apartment systems vary widely — a 20-40 unit building can run $15,000-$50,000 for a full smartphone-based retrofit, or $1,500+ per suite for a traditional rewire. We quote per-building after walking the site.
Wired vs wireless vs IP intercom — which is right for me?
Wired is the most reliable and still the standard for single-tenant commercial and high-security installs. Wireless is useful for retrofits where rewiring is not practical, but can suffer from interference. IP-based runs over your existing network, scales easily, and is usually the best option for new builds, larger buildings, or anywhere you want remote management. We recommend based on the building, not the latest trend.
Can we upgrade without rewiring the whole building?
Often yes. Many older buildings have wiring that is still usable — we can replace just the entry panel and in-unit stations. Smartphone-based platforms like ButterflyMX or Swiftlane skip in-unit hardware entirely, so you only need to wire a single panel at the entry. This is a huge cost-saver for condo boards and landlords who want to modernize without a six-figure rewire.
Do I need video, or is audio-only enough?
For new installs, video is the standard — the cost difference is marginal and the security benefit is significant. Seeing who is at the door before unlocking drastically cuts down on piggybacking and social-engineering entries. Audio-only still works for some commercial applications where budget is tight or video is not practical, but we rarely recommend it for residential or main-entry use.
How does a smartphone-based intercom actually work?
Platforms like ButterflyMX and Swiftlane install a single panel at the entrance. When a visitor presses a tenant name, the panel places a video call to the tenant smartphone. The tenant sees the video, talks to the visitor, and taps a button to unlock the door — from anywhere in the world. No in-unit hardware to install, no handsets to break. Tenants can also issue virtual keys (QR codes or PIN codes) to guests, deliveries, or cleaners.
Can the intercom integrate with our access control and cameras?
Yes. Modern intercom systems log every entry event and can trigger camera recording when the door opens. Some platforms (like BAS-IP and 2N) include built-in access control with fob or mobile credential support. We configure unified dashboards so property managers see one feed for cameras, access logs, and intercom activity.
How long does an intercom install take?
A single video intercom at a home or small office — usually one day. A small commercial office with a couple of entrances — two to three days. A multi-tenant condo or apartment retrofit — one to three weeks depending on building size, wiring condition, and whether residents need in-unit hardware. We schedule around occupied buildings so tenants are minimally disrupted.
What if the building has no existing intercom wiring?
Smartphone-based platforms solve this beautifully — they only need power and network at the front door panel. No wiring runs to individual units. For buildings that want traditional in-unit handsets with no existing wiring, we assess whether wireless is viable or if structured cabling needs to be installed. Cost goes up with wiring, so this is often the decision point.
Do you service the entire GTA?
Yes. We install and service intercom systems across Toronto, North York, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Aurora, Newmarket, Thornhill, and the broader GTA. For larger multi-building properties, we also work across Southern Ontario.

A friend, who is a contractor, referred Acetec to me, and I contacted them on a Thursday with my project details—an 8-camera exterior home security system connected to an NVR/network. They responded promptly and were on-site early Saturday morning. The team was well-organized and came prepared, conducting a thorough walk-around before recommending the most efficient setup. They completed the installation and cleanup in about 5 hours. After installation, they performed a final walk-around, adjusted the camera angles to my exact specifications, and provided a quick tutorial on the software/app, allowing me to easily access the cameras on my phone. Punctual. Pleasant. Professional.

They showed up on the appointment date and installed four HD cameras around the house, ran the wires to basement, installed necessary hardware to show all four pictures on a 24" monitor. They also helped us to install related AP on our cellphones. We can now monitor around our house 24/7 from anywhere. It took them half a day to complete the job.
We are very happy by the service we received.
