Cold-weather tested

Schlage, Yale, August models rated for −40°C with lithium batteries that hold up through winter.

Wi-Fi or Z-Wave

Direct Wi-Fi or via hub. Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, Ring, SmartThings — we make them all play nice.

Keypad & biometric

PIN codes, fingerprint, key fob, or phone. Auto-lock, geofencing, temporary guest codes.

Battery + Wi-Fi backup

Backup AA cells, key cylinder override, and offline operation when internet drops.

Smart lock FAQ

How much does smart lock installation cost in Toronto?
Most smart locks install for $400–$1,200 per door including the lock, installation, and app setup. Entry-level Wi-Fi locks (Schlage Encode, Yale Assure) run $300–$500 installed; fingerprint + Apple Home Key models like Aqara U100 run $500–$700. Re-keying existing locks adds $40–$80.
Do smart locks work in Canadian winters?
The good ones do. Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August Wi-Fi, and Aqara all rate to −40°C with lithium batteries. The cheap ones don’t — we’ve seen $80 Amazon locks freeze and brick by January. Stick with Tier-1 brands and lithium AAs.
What if Wi-Fi or power goes out?
Every smart lock we install runs on its own batteries (4 AA, typically 6–12 months). Wi-Fi only matters for remote control — the keypad and physical key still work offline. We always keep a physical key cylinder.
Will it work with Apple Home / Google Home / Alexa?
Yes — the brands we install all integrate with at least one major platform, usually two. Schlage Encode works with both Apple Home and Google Home natively. Aqara U100 supports Apple Home Key (tap your iPhone to unlock). Tell us which platform you use and we’ll match the lock.
Can I keep my existing key?
If you want to keep your current key working alongside the smart lock, choose August Wi-Fi — it bolts onto your existing deadbolt. Otherwise we replace the deadbolt entirely and can re-key matching locks on the property to a single new physical key.
How long do batteries last?
6–12 months with normal household use. The lock warns you in the app when batteries hit 20%. Always use lithium AAs in winter — alkaline drains fast below freezing.
Can I give guests temporary codes?
Yes — that’s one of the main reasons people switch. Create a code for a cleaner, contractor, or Airbnb guest that auto-expires on a date you choose. You see exactly when each code is used in the app.
Do smart locks work on condo doors?
Usually yes — most condo deadbolts use standard sizing. We check the door thickness, lock spacing, and your building’s rules. Some condos require approval for door hardware changes; we can write a brief for management if needed.
What areas do you serve?
All of the GTA: Toronto, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, North York, Aurora, Thornhill, Newmarket. Same-week installation is standard. Same-day install if we’re already in your area.
